 FOOD HABITS

Food is one of the essential pillars of health an well-being. Not in vai, the type of diet can determine the onset of diseases such as obesity, diabetes, cardiobascular disease and varius types of canser. In fact,there are estimates that quantify more than 30% cancers that have a direct connection whit food in our diets.  In this context , a nutritionist's advice can be very halpfull in improving eating habits and health. 5 servings daily or more of fruits, vegetables and vegetables.

SUSTAINABILITY:


We're going to define sustainability quite differently from normal definitions because the most popular definition in the world, the Brundtland definition of so called "sustainable development," is flawed. It's so flawed it should be tossed on the rubbish heap of history's biggest catastrophic mistakes.
First we'll give you our definition, followed by a look at why "sustainable development" is not just flawed. It was designed to deliberately lead problem solvers astray, because guess who "development" benefits most, even more than developing nations? Why large for-profit corporations, of course.
Sustainability is the ability to continue a defined behavior indefinitely.

For more practical detail the behavior you wish to continue indefinitely must be defined. For example:
Environmental sustainability is the ability to maintain rates of renewable resource harvest, pollution creation, and non-renewable resource depletion that can be continued indefinitely.
Economic sustainability is the ability to support a defined level of economic production indefinitely.
Social sustainability is the ability of a social system, such as a country, to function at a defined level of social well being indefinitely.
A more complete definition of sustainability is thus environmental, economic, and social sustainability. This forms the goal of The Three Pillars of Sustainability.

Organic foods are those that have been cultivating respecting the cycles of nature, without using genetically modified varieties or treatments with chemical synthesis pesticides, and therefore, consumig them, contributes to the care of our enviroment. The FIBL researchers analyse different studies that show that organic farming has a lower impact  on the enviroment and  conclud that it is a valid method to fight on a global scale aginst the envariomental challenges presented to us.

A food promoted as highly conducive to health. A food that is believed to be good for your health : a food that has no artificial ingredients

Healthy eating means eating a variety of foods that give you the nutrients you need to maintain your health, feel good, and have energy. These nutrients include protein, carbohydrates, fat, water, vitamins, and minerals.
Nutrition is important for everyone. When combined with being physically active and maintaining a healthy weight, eating well is an excellent way to help your body stay strong and healthy. If you have a history of breast cancer or are currently undergoing treatment, eating well is especially important for you. What you eat can affect your immune system, your mood, and your energy level.
No food or diet can prevent you from getting breast cancer. While researchers are still studying the effects of eating unhealthy food on breast cancer and recurrence risk, we do know that being overweightis a risk factor for both first-time and recurrent breast cancer.

"El día de los muertos"


" El día de los murtos" is a mexican tradition, people offer many things to the  person they love like   to their friend or family that already die. It happens on November 1st and 2nd. A common symbol is the calacas (skulls or catrinas).

The most popular dish of this festivals are the candy skulls that have the name of the deceased it is a skull made of sugar with decorations , the "pan de los muertos" is a bread and  everyone have it's own recipe .


  
 the candy skulls aren't healthy because sugar make your teeth damage and makes you get fat and sick. 

"El pan de los muertos" is  unhealthy and healthy, because it have ingridients that come from the nature but it also have many sugar and butter.

Here are some tips to put a green offering:If you use food in your offering, but later you do not want to eat it, we recommend that you use old bread or food that you are not going to consume. If you decide to consume it, we suggest that it be organic products or local producers. In this way you will be contributing to the care of the planet and the local economy.





The key to maintaining a balance of calories is that the portions are small!1. Buy sweets and chocolates in small packages - Take the sweets and drinks in small packages to enjoy your favorite treats without exceeding the number of calories a day.2. On the day of the party do not skip breakfast or lunch- It is important not to skip the meals of the day in order to save calories. Yes you must reduce the percentage of fat and the number of calories for each meal. Studies have found that the proportion of calories during the day is important to maintain active metabolism and even lose weight.3. Drink 8 ounces of water or another drink without calories - Drinking water or sodas without calories helps you to satisfy hunger and keep you hydrated during the holidays. Remember, the more water, the better!4. Serve your favorite foods or sweets in small plates- You will be surprised how many calories you can save by following this advice. We do not realize the power of the mind and often a bit of what we like most is enough to satisfy us. There is no need to eat too much. Also, stay away from the food and candy table to avoid temptation.

" FESTIVAL OF QUEBEC


The important thing about this festival are the attractions, how lios are the nocturnal dolphins or the giant snowman that so much cheers the children

Other characteristics that should be highlighted are the Christmas lights that shine and best of all is that they do not waste light and collect all the light of day, an extra fact is that this is held in the palace of the capital.


This year  the quebec festival is going to be on july 5th to 15th , 2018. picture a modern, yet historic city taken over by a music festival and tens of thousands of festivalgoers. Ten venues on wich a string of international supersatrs  along with top a new talents play for a full 11 days! From rock, French songs, hip hop, electro, jazz, classical music and world music, there will be something for every taste! Downtown Quebec City and totally affordable! 
  
 On those days people in Quebec eat some traditional food like:

Beaver Tails (Queues de Castor)

A Beaver Tail is a warm pastry formed in the shape  of — you guessed it —  a beaver’s tail. The pastry is then topped with sugar, cinnamon, chocolate or fruit. While the Beaver Tail is not unique only the Winter Carnival, it makes a great snack after a long day of dancing, singing and playing in the snow. I had the classic topped with cinnamon sugar- next time I want to try chocolate hazelnut.

Quebec City Sugar Shack
I’m not sure about the origins of the Sugar Shack, but seeing as I live in Florida, this is the first I ever heard of it. I am going to assume it is uniquely Canadian as the main ingredient is maple syrup. Maple syrup is poured on the snow and then you take a large Popsicle stick and twirl it around until is sticks, forming something similar to a lollipop.


Caribou

Caribou is an alcoholic drink similar to mulled wine. It is served either hot or cold, and is unique to Quebec. Hot Caribou is definitely the way to go! 





 

Poutine

I don’t think anyone can visit Canada without trying Poutine. I admit, it’s not the most attractive looking dish, but it tastes great! Poutine is french fries topped with gravy and cheese curds.It can be found all over Canada, and is a must after a long day at the Winter Carnival.




"CARNiVAL DE BARRANQUILLA"




El Carnaval de Barranquilla is a spectacular display of Colombian customs and colors, with a Caribbean twist.
The four-day celebration, which ran February 6 through 9, 2016. 

What makes Barranquilla's carnival distinct are what organizers call its "13 different musical expressions" that, even if from African or other roots, are imbued with Colombian colors and flare.

"It's great to see all types of Colombian people come together," says Saskia Werner, an attendee from the Netherlands. "It makes Colombia a beautiful place."


Organizers in Barranquilla work all year to prepare for what they claim is the world's second-largest carnival celebration, behind Rio.


In the days of party and celebration people eat specific kind of food, like:

CHUNCHULLO:

Is a beef small intestine, wich may be grilled or fried. it is consume in all Barranqulla.
 

It requires a long cooking.




AREPA CON HUEVO:

This tipical food is unhealthy because it is fried and contain many fat. This could give you cardiac problems or obesity.





CONCLUSION:




 

The festivals and carnivals around the world  have forgotten to make food healthier, so they can get sick if they don't take care of there health so here we are to change that delicious food and make it more healthy  and it would be still really delicious.




the festivals give so much happiness that humanity has been forgotten to take care of itself, that is why we want to change that image by modifying some of the typical foods that harm the human being, such as:

-pan of the dead: change the sugar by fruit putting it inside.

-poutine: stop having honey and sugar which makes it stick to our teeth.                           -Arepa con huevo: changing some ingridients and dont fry it a lot.

 MENU PROPOSAL


 We are going to chose just two dishes that are:

* pan de muerto
* arepa de huevo 

as we know the objective of the project is to make this dishes healthier and sustainable without changing all the plate, so, to make this we are going to change ingredients to healthier ones.

First of all, we choose this dishes because they were easy to make in Colombia, (because of the ingredients) and because they are the ones that are less sustainable.


AREPA DE HUEVO

Why are we changing this?

* corn mass: the original recipe use corn flour that have many calories  and fat, so, we are going to make our own mass by buying some corn and grind it putting some butter. By this our arepa de huevo is going to be more healthy and it won't have many chemicals.

* Olive oil: this is better in many ways, because it dosen't have to much fat oan it is organic. the oil that is used to make the arepa de huevo have many fat.

the things that we are changing are not a lot but make a big difference, they are going to make this dish sustainable and healthier but it is not going to lose his essence.

BIOORGANIC FOOD AND ORGANIC FARMING

He help us to make our menu. strarting by making our own compost so that our food grow in a healthy way. 

WHAT IS COMPOST AND HOW TO MAKE IT?

* compost is the final product of the process of composting in wich microrganisms decompose the organic materia and make it soil

1. to make the compost first we need to have food (vegetebles and fruits)
                                                  that can decompose 

2.  convert them into wastes  







3. let the organisms do thei job (decompose the organic matter)


4. grow the plants in the compost so they would have more nutrients 




This is good for our plants because we use natural resources and it dosen't use chemicals  that are bad for ourselfs 


CONVENTIONAL FARMING:

* Is the type of farming that damage the air and water because it use many chemicals 

* it use fertiliser and have hormones 

* Is bad for our health

ORGANIC FARMING:

* Only use natural resourses

* good for earth

* Don't use any type of chemicals

* make dishes more sustanable, so people can buy them for a good prize and they can eat in a good way.
